I am filming outdoor hunting with this camera along side the cannon hx-al with a hunting partner, this camera is a lot more portable and easyer to use, the only fall back to this compared to the hx-al is about 10 min. of filming light at the end of the hunt witch is passed shooting hours in missouri. I paid about 1500 less than the other guy for 10 min. of light. picture quality is great and it is easy to transfer to my computer to burn to cd.

Sony HDR Review

When I first received this camera, I really put it through the paces trying it out in different light conditions, with different mics, etc. I was really impressed with how well it performed. With a full complement of features and presets, the FX-1 provides a tremendous amount of bang for my buck. Some reviewers mentioned the lack of XLRs for audio in, but in a wireless world is that really a problem? I use a Sennheiser G2 Wireless Lavalier Microphone Kit with a wireless adapter that snaps into the XLR port of any handheld or shotgun mic. I just plug the wireless receiver's miniplug directly into the FX-1. The auto-limiter has never failed me; the audio levels stay very consistent and I haven't seen it peak out once. I do also carry a BeachTek DXA-4 Dual XLR Adapter and an XLR cable in my kit in case of emergencies, but I've never once had to pull them out.

Not a negative, just an FYI: the FX1 weighs almost 5 pounds, add a big battery, a shotgun mic and/or a light and this camera is probably way too heavy for the average prosumer-quality tripod. Additionally, if you use a steady-device, even with a basic harness, or a shoulder mount, you might find your shoots to be a little more grueling than with your old camera. Ultimately, you may find as I did that you also have to upgrade some of your basic support equipment to accommodate the extra weight. Be sure to consider this in your budget.

Great color, wide-screen, 1080i and great audio what more could you ask for around 00? The FX-1 has set the mark that the others are now trying to emulate.

If you're looking for a good small AVCHD camcorder this is worth looking into. The extras in the kit are great. Protectors for the touchscreen, a lens cleaner, a small table top tripod, a camera case and an extra battery.

The camera has great battery life and allows the user to select several different types of recording in either HD or Standard Definition. I was able to run it for 50 minutes straight on the lowest HD recording setting.

The small tripod works well. I wasn't expecting much, but the camera is so small and lightweight that the tripod handles it without a problem.

The camera case is the perfect size for fitting the camera, USB cable, tripod and extra battery. The extra battery worked fine and appears to give me about twice the recording time as the stock battery.

There is 8 GB of onboard storage which should be plenty for most people but just in case the kit comes with an additional 4 GB memory stick.

The only downside I have with this camera is that the picture can be grainy in low light. Since most people who do videos will make sure they have plenty of light before recording this is a very small issue. How much light? From my use, a well lit room with two 60 watt lamps on is fine.

Rain Boots Sony HDR Review

I don't have a lot to add over what has already been said by other reviews, except to confirm that the picture quality degrades rapidly with decreasing light levels. In good light, the picture is jaw-dropping excellent (played back on a 50" Sony HDTV), but in dim interior lighting, it can be just about as shockingly awful. My best advice is to turn on every light in the room and surrounding rooms. If that doesn't do it for you, upgrade the wattage of the bulbs. My reference point for low light performance is a Sony mini-dv cam form 2002, which was pretty good in low light - better than the CX100, actually.

Battery life with supplied battery is pretty poor. I got the bigger capacity Lenmar from Amazon and it works great. Grab yourself a 16G MS Pro Duo while you're at it.

I dinged the usability by a star, because even after 4 months of a lot of use, I find the menus on this cam to be awful. I have only had Sony cams, so it's not like I'm a newbie. I'm sure I'll eventually be used to it, but still...

One great thing if you have a PS3 - just burn a data DVD with the .MTS video files from the camcorder and stuff it in the PS3 to play it back. The quality is simply amazing.

Overall, this is a great camcorder, and the low light performance is the only issue which occasionally makes me wonder if I should have spent the extra money for the CX500. Now that the price on the CX500 has dropped significantly below msrp, I probably would have gone ahead and spent the money to upgrade. Having to buy a 16G MS puts the price much closer to the CX500, since it has 32GB built in, and it has the EXMOR-R backlit sensor which improves the low light performance significantly.

Sony Cybershot

Sony's HDR-XR500 is truly a great handycam! The high definition videos that I get with this camera are awesome! I have uploaded quite a few of them to Youtube and they look great!

But I did have a problem with some of the videos I took. Once in a while, I have a problem with uploading one of my high definition videos to Youtube. What happens is I complete the upload process, but the video has a lot of break-up. But the audio still sounds great. I did contact Sony via their on-line tech support and they said that it was not a problem with the camera. They said that as long as I was able to view the videos from the camera and burn them to disc, it was a problem with Youtube and not the HDR-XR500. They also said that it was possible that when I copied the videos to my computer, my computer may have corrupted the videos. But that is probably not true. I tried to upload the same problem videos from my camera to Youtube using another computer and I had the same bad results. But I did get Sony's Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro video editing software and used that to fix the problem videos. But, the amount of time it takes the Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro to render a high definition video file is ridiculous! I edited a 10 minute video by adding music to the soundtrack, and it took the software nearly 5 hours to render a hi def .wmv file! Whoa!

But the camera itself is a very good camera. It has great low light capability and it has great anti-vibration capability that is very noticeable when the zoom is all the way out.
